While we do not have an official breed specific rescue in Canada, CAC tries it's best to support our members working in rescue and hopes to someday have a fully fledged breed rescue. If you have any inquiries about a rescue Akita or wish to help the club please send us a message!
We will be highlighting rescues that our club members are working with here as well as providing links for how you can help or adopt these loving souls.

Pepper, a 3.5-year-old girl who is a complete cuddle bug and great dogy kisser. Pepper is up to date on all her vetting and vaccinations (DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella, dewormed) microchipped. She also had been spayed. Pepper has clean bill of health and no health concerns.
Pepper is really adorable with humans. She's an extraordinary dog, playful but with a slippery temperament, and very affectionate. However, she can get into confrontations with other dogs and she has a lot on prey drive on small animals so she must be the only animal in the house.
She is house trained, leash trained, crate trained, with solid basic obedience knowledge, non-anxious and not destructive or excessively vocal.

Due to the limited capacity of our rescue and rehome program, we regret to inform you that we are currently unable to admit a beautiful American Akita named Bear. However, we are dedicated to assisting his family in finding him a loving new home where he can embark on a fresh chapter in his life.
Bear is a 5-year-old, neutered and fully vaccinated up to date, healthy purebreed male American Akita.
Bear is an exceptional dog, embodying the quintessential temperament and character traits of the American Akita breed. Once he establishes a bond with his human companions, he transforms into a warm and affectionate presence, eagerly seeking out cuddles and affection. With his calm demeanor, Bear walks gracefully on a leash, making every stroll a delightful experience.
His energy level is pleasantly laid-back; he thrives on a daily walk but is equally enthusiastic about the occasional run or invigorating bike ride. Bear is responsive to basic commands, showcasing a commendable eagerness to learn new things, although he isn't particularly motivated by treats. It's worth noting that he has a slight allergy to chicken, which is important to consider when planning his meals.
Bear can sometimes express discomfort by growling when he feels uneasy, serving as an important signal that should be heeded. He has exhibited minor separation anxiety, often vocalizing through howling when left alone. Additionally, he may display assertive behavior towards other dogs, regardless of gender. It's also worth mentioning that Bear prefers having his personal space respected, which may make him a less suitable companion for families with young children.
Bear's need for rehoming arises from upcoming changes in his family's living situation and recent family dynamics. As they look forward to the future, they find they will no longer be able to accommodate him due to concerns regarding his interactions with other family dogs and young children. However, Bear is expected to thrive in a new environment. He is a loving and loyal companion, perfectly suited for anyone searching for a devoted furry friend. The anticipation of finding a new home for Bear brings hope that he will soon bring joy and companionship to another family

Bear is currently located in Bracebridge, and potential adopters are encouraged to reach out for a meet and greet. For more information about Bear, please contact Diane at 705-984-2275
